Australian burlesque is more the history of the Australian showgirl, no solely burlesque theatres have existed in Australia, until perhaps now!
While the USA had the competing circuits of burlesque and vaudeville - the former offering risque and tempting displays of the flesh, the latter providing family entertaintment - both were keen to differentiate themselves from the other.
